About Curbed Behaviors Dog Training

Balanced, Humane, Relationship-based

At Curbed Behaviors Dog Training, we believe every dog deserves the chance to live a happy, balanced life with their family. Our mission is to help dogs become obedient and reliable companions while honoring their individuality and spirit. We prioritize realistic expectations, compassion, and safety — especially for dogs with challenging backgrounds, such as rescues or dogs who have experienced trauma.
Our philosophy centers on a balanced, humane, relationship-based approach that empowers families to feel supported, educated, and confident working with their dogs, both at home and out in public.

How We Train:

We combine positive reinforcement — rewarding dogs for making good choices — with fair, consistent guidance to help them learn clear boundaries. Our training methods use proven tools, like slip collars and treat rewards, to communicate effectively while building trust and confidence.

We avoid harsh punishments or intimidation, focusing instead on calm, respectful leadership. Our programs are tailored to each dog’s unique needs, recognizing that not every dog will have the same skills or capabilities, but every dog can improve and grow.

How We Correct Behaviors

We use clear, humane guidance to interrupt unwanted behavior and redirect them toward something more appropriate. Our goal is to help dogs succeed — not to intimidate or punish them. Depending on the situation and the dog’s needs, we may use:

  • Gentle leash cues using a slip collar (light pressure that’s released as soon as the dog responds)

  • Thoughtful body positioning to block, guide, or prevent jumping or crowding

  • Verbal markers/corrections to signal a boundary

Corrections are never harsh, forceful, or fear-based. We use them intentionally and pair them with a chance to try again to earn praise or reward. This helps dogs build trust, learn boundaries, and make better choices over time — all while preserving the relationship between dog and handler.

Our Mission

Our mission at Curbed Behaviors Dog Training is to make quality dog training accessible, affordable, and educational for all families, while giving back to our local community through outreach, advocacy, and support. We help dogs and their owners build safe, confident, and happy relationships, and we are dedicated to making a positive impact wherever we can.

Our Vision

We envision a community where every family, regardless of background, has access to the resources, knowledge, and support they need to live safely and confidently with their dogs, and where neighbors come together to uplift one another for a better future.
